Self-isolation in Lihong's own room has been a recurring theme in her diary. The Ghosts Series was inspired by the artist’s 14 days exploration of her bedroom when she was quarantined in her own home in China due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 (This has been recorded into her diary and can be found in the Diary China, 2020). Through depictions of her used and accumulated everyday items, the artist strives to portray her personal 'presence' in a particular space that may be termed ‘home’. Lihong uses a transparent shape that obliterates all interior details to depict this category of objects, while keeping an identifiable exterior. This series intends to conjure up memories and feelings associated with the artist’s intimate space, as elicited by the things discovered in her room.
