Self-isolation in Lihong's own room has been a recurring theme in her diary. The Ghosts Series was inspired by the artist’s 14 days exploration of her bedroom when she was quarantined in her own home in China due to the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. Through depictions of her used and accumulated everyday items, the artist strives to portray her personal 'presence' in a particular space that may be termed ‘home’. Lihong uses a transparent shape that obliterates all interior details to depict this category of objects, while keeping an identifiable exterior. This series intends to conjure up memories and feelings associated with the artist’s intimate space. She explored the emotional connection between everyday objects and the occupant(the artist herself). Particularly, she explored the special significance of everyday objects that suggest the artist's presence and absence at a certain time.
